Origins

Canithesis Interactive was founded in Missouri, United States, as the commercial arm of two hobbyist software engineers.

Before the company, we got our start writing homebrew tools, creating mods for games made by others, and hosting web infrastructure for a few online forums and video game servers. Some of us have been doing this since we were just kids, out of curiosity and passion, not unlike the tinkerers from the Commodore 64 and ZX Spectrum era.

Our goal is to create high-quality products made more for fun than for profit, away from the crunch-culture and greedy penny-pinching of the rest of the computer industry. We remain dedicated to our values against the anti-consumer abuse typically found at the hands of accounting teams who do not understand our craft. We are artists, not just businessmen.

You've no doubt noticed our website is very barebones. This is deliberate. We've designed it to be straightforward, modeling after websites from 30 some years ago. At Canithesis, one of our rules is to "keep it simple, stupid", and you will find traces of this in all of our work.

The Name

The word "Canithesis" is a portmanteau derived from the Latin word "Canidae", referring to wolves and similar animals. Wolves are some of nature's most intelligent yet most peaceful creatures. They are commited to family, without much knowledge of human sin, monarchy or superficial desires. "CANI" also happens to be an acronym meaning "Constant And Neverending Improvement", coined by American self-help coach Tony Robbins. If you ever find yourself asking "Cani do it?", the answer is we certainly can and we will!
